The building’s history
The building was the most imposing in the village because it was built to be used as a Turkish school.
After the Treaty of Lausanne and the exchange of populations (1923), it became part of the Real Estate Management Organization of the Ottoman State, in the areas that had recently been liberated.
In 1924, for rent initially and after purchase later, it was granted to the family of Andreas and Glykeria Kandiros and it was their permanent residence until 1964, when Andreas Kandiros passed away.
In the following years, for a long time, on the initiative of the Director of the Mousthenε Primary School, Vardis Kandiros, a tapestry school operated in the building, the management of which he undertook without remuneration, following a proposal from the Tapestry Organization. In total, 70-80 girls aged 17-18 attended the school, many of whom were professionally rehabilitated, a very important fact for that time.
In the early 1990s the building was bought by Stergios Argyriadis, who used a small part of the ground floor as a grocery store.
